Pediatric Eye Care
Children can suffer from all forms of eye disease, including congenital cataracts, glaucoma, retinopathies, corneal dystrophies, and eyelid malfunctions/deformities. One of the most common pediatric eye conditions is strabismus (crossed/wondering eyes). Any of these conditions are very serious because they can interfere with the proper development of the child’s vision. If the vision does not develop properly by the age of 8-10 years old, the child may have permanent vision loss, known as amblyopia (lazy eye). It is important to get these pediatric eye conditions treated early and properly by a pediatric eye specialist to avoid unnecessary vision loss in the child’s future.
At the Zion Eye Institute, our team of expert eye doctors and surgeons can diagnose and treat all forms of pediatric eye diseases. We have Southern Utah’s only full-time, fellowship-trained pediatric eye specialist who is highly skilled and experienced with the most advanced pediatric medical treatments and pediatric eye surgeries available.

Strabismus is a term that describes misalignment of the eyes. Although this is most common in young children, it can also happen to adults for a variety of reasons, including trauma, neurological and vascular conditions.
In adults, the most common symptom is newly developed double vision. This can be managed with prismatic eyeglasses or surgically repaired by repositioning the extraocular muscles that control eye movements.
